Terra Science and Education’s commitment to science fairs goes well beyond funding regional competitions. Terra chooses to advocate across the education and community spectrum to impact the lives of students. Therefore, we offer the following support for educators and potential local fair directors:
Terra provides $1,000 grants geared towards improving or starting a local school-based science and engineering fair to promote STEM education at schools. Go to terraed.org/grants for details and the grant application.
Terra Fair Fellowship aims to train teachers by providing $500 as stipend and $500 for supplies (renewal up to two years) to become familiar with STEM project preparation, to organize a school STEM fair, and to advance at least five student projects to one of the local Terra fairs. Go to terraed.org/fellowships for details and the fellowship application.
Terra provides up to $5,000 for projects and materials that build long-term capacity at K-12 schools or educational non-profits. Examples may include investments in technology, laboratory-building, or teaching materials. It may also include equipment for projects that can be used every year, such as a robotics or engineering club, classroom technology, etc. Go to terraed.org/grants for details and the grant application.
Terra provides online professional development units that Terra Fairs or NYS Master Teachers in our Terra Fairs counties can employ to encourage incorporation of precollegiate research and engineering design experiences and fair participation into their implementation of the NGSS.
